coffee for one please!

frappuccino, plain and chocolate muffin

Sometimes, all you need to do is take out time for a coffee date with yourself! And if you may, invite a muffin or two to join you as well. I enjoyed my morning coffee at the not-so-old Tazzina Cafe @ Executive Towers, Business Bay. And I loved it. Have a nice day, people!

Wishing super mums a lovely day!!

You don't get time to tweak your brows yet look gorgeous!
You don't get time to read the books yet have all the answers!
You don't get time to answer mails yet stay connected!
You don't get time to drink yet say life is a party!
You don't get time to socialise with the seniors yet shine at work!
You have hundred reasons to fret yet you always smile!
Mommies, how do you do it all?
Respect & love!!

....and that's how you do it all!!

Theatre & the city

What could be a better way to spend a Friday afternoon than being surrounded by a bunch of talented and new faces? So when Social Citi's invite to watch the actors audition for their forthcoming event, Battle of the Best Season One, reached my inbox I was delighted. (Battle of the Best is a competition of theatre plays to bring the best of writers, actors, directors on a platform. The works of these besties will be staged on July 5 and 6 at DUCTAC, MOE.) The Voltas Studio, DUCTAC, was brimming with talent. I walked in to be greeted by the lovely smile of Sadia Noori, the mind & heart behind the event.

Soon not-so-young, young & very young (I was particularly impressed with the acting skills of the very young) actors began to walk in. They took over the stage for just a few minutes each, enacted their scenes, patiently waited for the audiences’ response, introduced themselves… Some were nervous, some were lost, some were confident…but what held them all together was the excitement!!  I loved the way Sadia brought out the best in each by requesting them to show us variations in the same scene, playing with emotions from happy to angry and sad to shock.

This was my first ‘theatre audition’ experience in Dubai and I must say I totally loved it. So much so that on my way back home I was actually trying to enact the role plays of the actors I had witnessed. I did the ‘Step sister speaks out’ and even attempted ‘The Godfather’!

In all, it was an afternoon well spent. I wish the team luck!!

P.S: For the uninitiated, Social Citi (socialcitilive.com) is a Dubai-based group formed by a handful of passionate people from diverse backgrounds (fashion, marketing, theatre, social media, marketing, etc.) who work insane hours to bring our city alive! And this time around they’re using theatre as their medium to add a spark to our lives.

Flea market @ Safa Park

Lovely greens of Safa Park
The Flea Market @ Safa Park

So I'd heard a lot about the flea market that happens on the first Saturday of every month at Safa Park  and I was really keen to go & take a look. And that's what I did yesterday. Sadly, my excitement & curiosity faded with just one glance at the ill-managed, dirty and so-not-worth a visit market. I have never been a fan of second-hand things but I had walked in to the Safa Park (by the way, the entry fee is 3 AED per person) with a hope of getting a chance to see some vintage artifacts on display! Instead, what I witnessed were dirty kettles, tattered books, old clothes, fake phones, not-so-clean shoes & slippers! The items on sale at each stall was a funny mix of say one file folder, two track pants, a huge painting, some CDs...etc. etc... There was no system in this chaos! Also, I wished people were not throwing away plastic bottles and bags here & there. But then people were shopping, lots. I, of course, didn't.

However, thanks to the not-so-harsh sun and the kind-of pleasant wind I enjoyed sitting under the shade under one of the many, many trees at the park. The park is a lovely green spot for a picnic, and is well groomed.
